Immunization

As far as prophylaxis is concerned, an intramuscular standard immunoglobuline injection of 0,02 ml/kg provides immediate passive immunization for 80 to 90% of the patients. This passive protection lasts for 2 to 3 months and can be used for the immediate environment of a patient with acute hepatitis A. However, this protection isn't very useful as the infected patient is especially contagious during the incubation period i.e. when nobody knows he has been infected.
