Liver transplantation In case of a liver transplantation the risk of relapse in the transplant comes to 70%. However, this reinfection is less serious than the natural development of the infection and/or less serious than a reinfection by the hepatitis B virus usually is. A great number of persons with reinfection after transplantation have produced a serologic and histologic expression of the Delta virus without simultaneous expression of the hepatitis B virus and without noticeable liver affection.
